1. Current Situation and Injuries

Conner Weigman has been sidelined due to an AC joint injury in his throwing shoulder. It seems to be an extremely annoying week to week type of injury and hopefully will not go under diagnosed for the sake of playing. Before his injury, he had started the first two games of the season but struggled significantly against Notre Dame, completing only 40% of his passes and throwing two interceptions without any touchdowns. It was absolutely lackluster and the sky was falling.

In contrast, Marcel Reed stepped in during Weigman’s absence and delivered a standout performance against Florida, completing 11 of 17 passes for 178 yards and three total touchdowns (two passing and one rushing). Bro was absolutely electric and anyone with eyeballs could see it. He then followed that up against a well coached Bowling Green team where his inexperience definitely showed. Thankfully, he was able to use his legs to extend plays and ultimately to win the game.

2. Performance Metrics

While Reed’s performance against Florida was impressive, against Bowling Green it was pretty mid. Still, it is essential to consider the quality of competition faced by both quarterbacks. 

Weigman had previously set an Aggies freshman passing record against a top-15 Ole Miss team in 2022 and led Texas A&M to victory over a top-5 LSU team that same season. His experience in high-pressure situations gives him an edge in terms of overall game management.

Reed’s statistics from the Florida game show he averaged over 10 yards per attempt, which is excellent; however, a significant portion of his yardage came from a single long completion. If we remove that play from consideration, his average drops considerably. This indicates that while Reed can be effective, he may not yet have demonstrated consistent performance under pressure or against stronger defenses.

3. Skill Set Comparison

Weigman has shown potential as a more traditional passer with the ability to make precise throws under duress (in the past, definitely not in the 2024 season). His previous performances indicate he can handle complex defensive schemes effectively. 

On the other hand, Reed displayed versatility with his ability to run as well as pass but has yet to prove himself consistently.

4. Conclusion: Who Is Better?

Based on current information and analysis of their performances and just overall vibes after watching us almost lose to Bowling Green at home:

• Conner Weigman has demonstrated more consistency and success against higher-level competition, making him potentially the better quarterback overall when FULLY healthy. If he is ready to go at damn near 100%, he is the best option for us to win football games.

• Marcel Reed has shown promise, and we at Agknocks are absolutely stoked for his future in maroon and white; however, it is premature to declare him definitively better than Weigman based solely on a few games.

Thus, the better quarterback between Conner Weigman and Marcel Reed is currently Conner Weigman, assuming he returns to full health. Gig em’
