Aggies Roll Mississippi State 31-9 in College Station Rout

The No. 5 Texas A&M Aggies (5-0, 2-0 SEC) welcomed Mississippi State to Kyle Field last night for a primetime SEC tilt, and what started as a sloppy affair turned into a dominant defensive clinic. Shaking off a penalty-riddled first half, A&M pulled away in the second stanza to stifle the Bulldogs 31-9, extending their unbeaten streak and solidifying their status as SEC West frontrunners. The blackout crowd at Kyle Field was absolutely electric. It’s starting to feel like the Aggies have their Head Ball Coach.

The opening quarter was a grind, with both offenses mired in the mud. Mississippi State (4-2, 0-2 SEC) drew first blood on a 42-yard field goal after a 15-play drive stalled at the A&M 1-yard line, thanks to a false start penalty.

A&M’s defense, fresh off holding Auburn to 10 points the week prior, bent but didn’t break. Linebacker Daymion Sanford snagged a crucial interception on a pass that was affected by a nasty rush, setting up the Aggies’ lone first-half score: a 34-yard dart from Marcel Reed to transfer WR KC Concepcion, who muscled through two defenders for the 7-3 halftime edge.

Reed, finished the night 18-of-25 for 212 yards and two TDs, it wasn’t perfect but Marcel led his team through an early struggle and finished strongly all over the Bulldogs’ faces.

Defensively, A&M was lights-out, limiting State to 289 total yards (just 112 rushing) while forcing two turnovers and four sacks—Cashius Howell accounted for three of those. The win marks A&M’s first 5-0 start since 2016.

It seems that Elko is in his bag defensively. The offense could use some rhythm, but it’s got to be nice for them to know this defense will have their backs.

The Aggies will look to keep their second half momentum going vs a Florida team that just beat Texas next Saturday night at Kyle Field.

Final Score: Texas A&M 31, Mississippi State 9
